Introduction

My name is Ben Davis, and I am a sophomore from Fremont, Ohio, which is about 35 minutes away from Bowling Green. I am a sport management major, concentrating in the communication field.

From a young age, I have always been involved in sports. I began playing youth soccer in kindergarten, which i continued until I was in third grade. It was about that time when I began my love for football. I started watching NFL games with my father and his friend every week, and was soon hooked on the excitement that is professional football. Ever since then, I have been a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. From there, I continued my love by playing football all through high school, where my senior year my team finished the regular season 10-0 in Division 1, first in our region, and 6th in the state before losing in the first round to Toledo Whitmer. Now as a sophomore, I play intramural sports and am an avid fantasy football player.

One of my most memorable sport moments to me is the 2005 NFL season for the Denver Broncos. Jake Plummer was the QB, and that year was one of his most productive as an NFL player. He had the second fewest interceptions in the league, and earned himself a new nickname, "No Mistake" Jake. Highlights from that year also included Ron Dayne winning the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving in OT, and the Broncos beating the defending SuperBowl champion New England Patriots twice, with the second coming in the playoffs. The team would eventually lose the next week to Pittsburgh, but it was a great season to me. Since then, Denver hasn't really lived up to their potential, but with the hiring of new head coach Josh McDaniels and the switch to a 3-4 defense I feel that the team will be just fine sooner than later.

As for this class, I expect to get a better understanding of the ethics behind sports and the history of how my favorite sports came about.

  1. Hi Ben,

This is a nice introduction and I am glad to know about your background and interest in football. That must have been awesome to play on a team that was undefeated in DI. My High School team was in the play-offs this year (North Canton Hoover) and lost in the next to last round. I cannot remember who they lost to but I think it was the team that won State.

As for being a Denver Broncos fan, how did that happen, since you are from Ohio? You could have been a Browns, Bengals, or Lions fan. Then again, maybe that explains why you became a Broncos fan:-) I did not realize that Jake Plummer had acquired the moniker "No Mistake" Jake. I remembered him as "Jake the Snake." That may have been from his college days. Were you surprised when the Broncos fired Shanahan? I must admit that I was surprised about that, as well as to see that they hired someone as young as Josh McDaniels.

    Thanks for sharing your introduction!
